An Illuminated Pathway in Snow With Fireworks

January 2016 Newsletter – President Letter

Happy New Year Skiers & Boarders!
We hope you have been enjoying the holiday season with family and New Year's Eve at Steamboatfriends.  Did any lucky ones bring in the new yearfrom the slopes?  If you have any recommendations for next year, reply to this email and let us know!  Last year we made it to Snowshoe, but it was too cold to enjoy the outdoor party. Did anyone make it there this year?  Here’s a shot of the fireworks at Steamboat last night!
Looks like winter is finally here with the temps getting low enough to make snow.  I hope so, we are headed to Wisp next weekend.  It’s not a ski club trip, but we will be wearing our green bandanas.  Let me know if you’ll be on the mountain too and we can meet up.  Not sure we’ll get much skiing in.  Keep your fingers crossed.

I posted a few new links on our website to get to updated snow reports.  The link from SkiSoutheast.com has a handy grid for WV and MD.  I added a separate link for Seven Springs and Holiday Valley.

Seven Springs is actually looking the best so far with 4 trails open and 8-26″ base.  Holiday Valley is next with a 3-17″ base and 2 slopes open.

Speaking of Seven Springs, we need to decide about our club trip this year.  If you are interested in going, please call or text Mark Miller at 740-525-5036.  He wants to have a count before our meeting this Tuesday, January 5th.  We will make the final call at the meeting.  I hope we can round up enough people to fill our 10 room minimum.

Steamboat is looking great for snow this year!  How lucky we are to have picked that resort.  Our son Alex joined the University of Cincinnati Ski Club trip to Steamboat in December this year.  He was there when they got three feet of powder and said it was the best boarding he has ever experienced.  Here’s the snow report from Steamboat – 48″ base, not too bad!

Think Snow!  We hope to see you Tuesday night, Jan 5th at the Parkersburg Country Club for our meeting.  Bob Griffith, Timberline Ski Instructor, is planning to speak and give a few tips on ski techniques.
